Nez Perce Plaza
What started out as a hillside in Lewiston, Idaho, ended up as the more-than-60-acre
Nez Perce Plaza shopping center. In between hillside and shopping center was the
matter of removing approximately 3.5 million yards of basalt rock.
The Plaza was an exercise in balance balance of space, cost, and need. For
all the rock we removed the question was always, "what can we fit in?"
We had to level the rock and build without rendering the sites cost prohibitive.
And, with such a challenging site, accommodating all the different lease agreements
gave a chance us to use our expertise in creating consensus.
Perhaps the measure of how effective we were is that the spaces filled up almost
instantly. |
