Breaking Ground on NEW Health’s New Chewelah Clinic
Yesterday marked an exciting milestone in Chewelah as Bernardo Wills joined NEW Health and community members to celebrate the groundbreaking of NEW Health’s new clinic.
The celebration came with an especially fun twist: guests were encouraged to wear costumes. The festive atmosphere made for a memorable way to mark the beginning of construction and celebrate what’s ahead for healthcare in the Chewelah community.
Bernardo Wills has partnered with NEW Health to design an integrated healthcare campus that responds to the needs of a larger rural market. The project is focused on expanding access to care by creating capacity for new and expanded healthcare services, improving operational efficiency and workflows, and developing infrastructure that can support NEW Health well into the future.
Collaboration has been central to the design process. Working closely with NEW Health stakeholders, the Bernardo Wills team has used visioning, community and cultural values, stakeholder engagement and design exploration to help shape the project’s goals and architectural character.
The site and landscape are also being thoughtfully considered as part of the overall campus experience. The design is intended to frame views of the surrounding mountains for patients, staff and visitors, while incorporating clear circulation and wayfinding, stormwater management and restorative outdoor spaces.
Ultimately, the new Chewelah clinic is about more than creating a new building. It is about creating a high-performing, community-centered environment that supports NEW Health’s long-term vision and helps increase access to healthcare services in the region.
We’re grateful to celebrate this milestone alongside NEW Health and everyone who helped bring the project to this point. From costumes and ceremonial shovels to the work happening behind the scenes, ground
