Midway Market Opens Its Doors in Colbert

The excitement was palpable as community members, project partners, and local leaders gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Midway Market, a new grocery and fuel destination located along the Highway 395 and Hatch Road interchange in Colbert, Washington.

Designed by Bernardo Wills, the project represents an important milestone in the continued growth of north Spokane County and serves as the first major commercial component of the larger Village at Midway development. The new market provides a convenient stop for residents, commuters, and travelers while helping establish a vibrant neighborhood hub for the surrounding community.

The approximately 16,000-square-foot facility combines a modern convenience market with an adjacent fueling station, creating a destination that offers both everyday necessities and specialty products. The completed market features a variety of departments, including fresh grocery offerings, a bakery, deli, meat counter, coffee service, and fuel amenities, giving residents a convenient option close to home. The store is operated in partnership with URM Stores and was envisioned as an upscale community market serving the growing population in the region.

Architecturally, the building was designed to create a welcoming presence along the Highway 395 corridor. The project incorporates a durable and expressive material palette, storefront glazing, decorative canopy elements, and a modern commercial aesthetic that contributes to the identity of the Village at Midway development. Positioned adjacent to The Ridge at Midway Apartments, the market helps support the area's transformation into a walkable mixed-use destination.

The grand opening ceremony marked the culmination of extensive collaboration between the owner, URM Stores, consultants, contractors, and the broader project team. Seeing the building activated by customers and community members is always a rewarding moment, and this project was no exception. As architects, we believe successful projects extend beyond the building itself. Midway Market creates a gathering place, provides convenient access to goods and services, and contributes to the long-term vision for growth and connectivity in the Colbert community.

We are proud to have partnered on this project and appreciate the opportunity to help bring this vision to life.
