Ponderay Field of Dreams
A vision nearly three decades in the making, the Field of Dreams Recreation Complex transforms a long-held community aspiration into a vibrant, regional sports destination. What began in 1993 as a grassroots effort to create a shared recreation space has evolved into a 50-acre, multi-sport complex serving families across North Idaho.
Bernardo Wills provided full architectural and site design services for Phase I, which includes four tournament-ready artificial turf fields, field lighting, ADA access, restrooms, parking, and walking paths. The design prioritized durability, accessibility, and year-round usability—key factors in a region that receives more than 60 inches of snowfall annually. Artificial turf ensures early spring and late fall play, while cement-treated base (CTB) strategies stabilized native soils and accelerated construction within North Idaho’s short building season.
Completed in fall 2024, the complex is already operating at near capacity, hosting youth practices, league play, and regional tournaments. The result is a safe, high-performance recreation space that strengthens community connections and supports economic growth. The Field of Dreams stands as a model for how vision, collaboration, and thoughtful design can bring new life to longstanding community goals.
